October, 2 2011 - Dawgs go 2-1 at Laxtoberfest
The Tahoe Dawgs took home victories against the Palo Alto Ducks and the Nevada Wolfpack Club over the weekend. Unfortunately, the team also dropped a lop-sided loss to Chico Republic, but we'd been drinking and Chico was young and fast. Whatever. Check out a Tourney recap article by the Crantini himself on laxallstars.com. Thanks to everyone who travelled up, volunteered, and participated. The youth of the Reno/Tahoe area will benefit from your time.

Your 2011 Tahoe Dawgs!

July, 31 2011 - Tahoe Dawgs Come up Short at Tahoe
Day 1
The Tahoe Dawgs had high hopes for the Annual Lake Tahoe Tournament this year, but sub-par second half performances in 3 out of 4 games left the Dawgs humbled. The Dawgs started off on the right foot versus the Woozles club scoring a few quick goals to take a short-lived lead, eventually going into halftime tied 5-5. The Woozles had a strong second half and kept the Dawgs from setting up on offense for most of the second half. The Woozles wound up shutting out the Dawgs and took a 9-5 victory over the home team.
Because of the loss, the Dawgs faced off against Bay Flow who had lost to Mountain Top in their opening game. The Dawgs were warmed up, and ready for a contest after falling to the Woozles. Tahoe controlled much of the game with physical play and dominance on ground balls and took a 2 goal lead into halftime. Strong defensive play in the second half kept Bay Flow in check, though they managed to squeeze a few by Dawgs goalie, Ken Buck. The Dawgs stayed strong and managed to possess and score and ended up with a 9-7 victory.
Day 2
The second day of the tournament for the Dawgs was characterized by beers, jello shots, more beers, and then a game against familiar opponent, the Palo Alto Ducks. The Ducks appeared younger and faster than their previous incarnations, and the (somewhat) inebriated Tahoe team may have overlooked this talented squad. As always, the Dawgs dominated the physical side of things and had a strong first half, but the teams traded goals back and forth through the end of regulation, which ended in an 8-8 tie. A rather long and painful overtime saw the teams go back and forth (again) possessing the ball until, finally, Palo Alto broke the tie by sinking the golden goal about five minutes into OT.
Day 3
On the last day of the 21st Annual Lake Tahoe Lacrosse tournament, the Tahoe Dawgs drew an early game against another local opponent: Sacramento. The Dawgs were short on subs and managed to put together a reasonable, but low scoring first half of lacrosse. For some reason the team could not produce on their offensive possessions and was unable to answer the Sacramento goals. The Dawgs went into halftime down two goals 2-4. The second half was not much better as the Dawgs sorely missed legs from the previous days. Sacramento scored 3 more goals to the Dawgs 2 and Tahoe was unable to come back. For the first time since 2009 the Tahoe Dawgs left Tahoe under .500 which was a disappointing result for the team.
On the bright side, the second tournament expansion in as many years went well and for 21 years the Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament has been the west coast’s top high elevation tournament.

July, 21 2011 - Dawgs Ready for Tahoe
The Tahoe Dawgs are the #3 seed in Group E of the 2011 Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament. Group E also includes Mountain Top (1) Woozles (2) and Bay Flow (4). The Dawgs will face off against the Woozles on Friday, July 22nd at 2pm on the Village Green fields with the winner of that game advancing to the Group E “finals” later Friday afternoon against either Bay Flow or Mountain Top. The rest of the schedule is TBD. The Dawgs have been practicing regularly and hope to make the most of our “home field advantage”. The team will be fielding a 29 player roster that includes the best of the local men’s club, a few University of Nevada players, and a top high school select team player. This year’s team will be without midfielders Danny Rotter and Terry Schrecker who will be out with family commitments and injury, respectively.

March, 6 2011 - Tahoe Dawgs Win 2011 Fresno Tournament
The Tahoe Dawgs started the 2011 Fresno Lacrosse Festival with two Saturday games against new programs with little tournament experience. In the first game the Dawgs met the Ibero Lobos Club from Mexico City. This was the first international game for many of the Dawgs players - it was quite a trip hearing Spanish from the players and the opposite bench. The game turned into more of a practice session for and ended in a 12-0 shutout. The next opponent for Tahoe was the Cal Maritime Academy Club out of Vallejo. The Dawgs eased off the pedal in this one too and cruised to a 14-1 victory. Early Sunday morning the Dawgs met tournament hosts Central California. The Dawgs possessed for much of the game and defeated the Fresno home team securing a spot in the championship game. For the championship, the Dawgs faced off against a very familiar opponent in Chico. The two rival teams played a tough, physical game but the Dawgs repeatedly found the net after long possessions that wore down the Chico defense. The Dawgs claimed a victory over Chico and a grabbed a tournament trophy for a weekend of hustle and tomfoolery. Thanks to everyone who travelled to Fresno and thanks to Central CA for putting it all together. Game notes: The Tahoe Dawgs remain undefeated vs. Fresno/Central CA teams. Curt Wegener was voted Tahoe Dawgs MVP for the second year in a row at Fresno. Frank scored a goal. Cody would like a Crantini.
